What you need

  • Passport validity: Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned date of departure from Georgia, and you should have at least one blank page in the passport.
  • Specific forms: There is no separate paper visa form for Afghan citizens; complete the online e-Visa application on the official portal at https://www.evisa.gov.ge/; you will upload a scan of the passport data page and a recent photo.
  • Financial proof: Provide proof of sufficient funds for your stay. A commonly recommended minimum is at least 50 USD per day of stay, demonstrated by bank statements from the last 3–6 months.
  • Accommodation and return ticket: Provide proof of accommodation (hotel booking or host invitation) and a return/onward ticket.
  • Photo spec: One recent passport-style photo (35x45 mm, 3.5 x 4.5 cm), color, white background, taken within the last 6 months.
  • Biometrics: For the e-Visa route, biometrics are not collected at a visa center; you submit your photo online. If applying for a sticker visa through an embassy, biometric collection may be required.
  • Travel health insurance: Travel health insurance is recommended but not strictly mandatory for the e-Visa route.

  • Student visa (e-Visa) – Official name: Student visa; Validity: 90 days from issue; Max stay per visit: up to 1 year depending on course; Entry: single-entry; Approximate fee: 30 USD.
  • Work visa (sticker visa via embassy) – Official name: Work visa; Validity: up to 1 year (depends on permit); Max stay per entry: up to 90 days; Entry: single-entry; Approximate fee: 60 USD. Note: This requires a Georgia work permit and visa issued through an embassy/consulate and may involve an interview.

How to apply

  • How to apply online (e-Visa): Go to https://www.evisa.gov.ge/; Steps: 1) select Afghanistan as your country; 2) choose the visa type; 3) fill the online application with personal details; 4) upload passport data page and a recent photo; 5) attach supporting documents (flight itinerary, hotel booking, invitation letter if required for business or study); 6) pay the visa fee online with a credit/debit card; 7) submit and wait for the decision; 8) you will receive the e-Visa by email; 9) print the e-Visa and present it on arrival.

  • Work visa (sticker): Fee 60 USD; processing time 2–4 weeks; interview may be required.
  • Additional service fees: No separate VFS/BLS service fee for the e-Visa portal; if you use a consular service for a sticker visa, follow the embassy’s payment method and any service charges they apply.
  • Total cost estimate: For an e-Visa tourist stay, around 20 USD in visa fees plus any incidental charges (credit card processing). Sticker visas incur higher total costs due to embassy processing and potential courier fees.
  • Express/priority options: Not generally advertised for the e-Visa portal; some missions may offer expedited processing on request with additional fees, subject to consulate approval.

Tips for Afghanistan travelers

  • Apply well in advance: Start the e-Visa application at least 2–3 weeks before travel; allow 1–3 days for processing, but plan for longer during peak travel periods.
  • Common rejection reasons for Afghan applicants: Incomplete or inconsistent information, passport validity less than required, insufficient funds, lack of supporting documents (hotel bookings, return ticket, invitation/letter for business or study), and discrepancies between passport data and uploaded documents.
