What you need

  • Financial Proof: Bank statements for the last 3-6 months showing sufficient funds to cover your stay (Estonian Ministry of Interior suggests a minimum of €20 per day per person, plus accommodation and return ticket costs. For a 10-day stay, this would be approximately €200 plus potential accommodation, total around €500-€1000 per person as a guideline).
  • Accommodation Proof: Hotel bookings or a letter of invitation if staying with a friend/family.
  • Return Ticket: Proof of a booked return flight ticket.
  • Photos: Two recent passport-sized photographs (35x45 mm) with a white background. Face should cover 70-80% of the photo.
  • Biometrics: Fingerprints and a digital photograph are required. These are usually collected at the visa application center (e.g., VFS Global) or the embassy/consulate where you submit your application.
  • Travel Health Insurance: Mandatory. Must cover medical expenses and repatriation in case of illness or accident. Minimum coverage of €30,000 and valid throughout the Schengen area.

  • 8. Collect your passport and decision from the VFS center or embassy.
  • Interview: An interview may be required at the discretion of the consular officer.

  • Standard Processing Time: At least 15 working days from the date of submission. This can be extended to 45 days in exceptional cases.
  • Express/Priority Option: Generally not available for Schengen visa applications submitted through VFS Global or standard embassy channels. It is advisable to apply well in advance.

Tips for Afghanistan travelers

  • Application Timing: Apply at least 2-3 months before your intended travel date. Do not leave it until the last minute due to potential delays.
