What you need

  • Passport validity: Passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry and have at least 2 blank visa pages.
  • Specific forms: For an Egypt e-Visa there is no separate form to download; apply online at visa2egypt.gov.eg and submit the online application. If applying through an Egyptian embassy/consulate, use the embassy visa application form provided by that post.
  • Financial proof: Bank statements or other proof showing access to at least USD 1,000 for the trip; cash on hand is acceptable.
  • Accommodation and return ticket: Hotel booking confirmation for the full stay or an invitation letter from a host in Egypt; and a return or onward flight ticket.
  • Photo spec: Two recent passport-style photos (35x45 mm) with a white background.
  • Biometrics: For e-Visa there is no on-arrival biometrics collection; if applying via an embassy/consulate, you may be asked to provide biometrics at the appointment.
  • Travel health insurance: Not mandatory but strongly recommended; ensure coverage for medical emergencies during your stay.

Application process

  • How to apply online (e-Visa): Visit https://visa2egypt.gov.eg/, create an account, choose the visa type (Tourist/Business/Student/Medical), upload required documents (passport bio-data page as a scan, passport photo, invitation letter for Business/Student, hotel or host details), enter travel details (arrival city/port and dates), and pay online with a Visa or MasterCard. Processing time is typically 5–7 working days. Approval arrives by email with a downloadable e-Visa PDF to print and present on arrival.
  • Visa on arrival: Availability varies by port of entry and national policy. If offered at select airports, you pay the visa fee in USD cash at the desk (rates vary; commonly in the USD range of 25–60). Present your passport, e-ticket/return ticket, hotel or accommodation proof, and sufficient funds. Processing is immediate and a stamp is placed in your passport.
  • Sticker (embassy) visa: Apply through the nearest Egyptian embassy/consulate that handles Afghan nationals. Documents typically required include your passport, two photos, completed visa application form, invitation or admission letter (for Business/Study), hotel reservations or host invitation, and bank statements. Fees are usually paid at the post (varies by post; commonly USD 60–100). Processing time is approximately 2–4 weeks; an interview may be required; visa will be affixed as a sticker in your passport and mailed or collected.
