Afghan citizens must obtain an e-visa to Chad before travel; apply online at https://www.ambassade-tchad.org/ for Tourism or Business categories; typical e-visa fees range from USD 60 to 100 with processing in 3–5 business days.

What you need

  • Passport validity: passport must be valid for at least 6 months from date of entry and have at least 2 blank pages remaining.
  • Specific forms: online e-visa application via the official Chad portal (no DS-160); complete the electronic application on https://www.ambassade-tchad.org/.
  • Financial proof: not always explicitly required, but you should demonstrate funds for your stay; provide bank statements from the last 3 months if asked, showing sufficient solvency.
  • Accommodation and return ticket: hotel reservation or invitation letter may be required; return/onward ticket should be available on request.
  • Photo spec: recent color passport photo, 35x45 mm (3.5 x 4.5 cm), white background, no glasses or head coverings (unless due to religion or medical reasons).
  • Biometrics: online e-visa generally does not require in-person biometrics for issuance; if requested, you will be instructed by the portal or consulate.
  • Travel health insurance: recommended to have cover for Chad; not always mandatory for e-visa but advisable.

Visa types

  • e-Visa de Tourisme (Tourist): Official name e-Visa de Tourisme; validity 90 days from issue; max stay 30 days; single entry; approximate fee USD 60–80; approx. XAF 42,000–56,000.
  • e-Visa d'Affaires (Business): Official name e-Visa d'Affaires; validity 90 days from issue; max stay 30 days; single entry; approximate fee USD 100–120; approx. XAF 70,000–84,000.
  • e-Visa Étudiant (Student): Official name e-Visa Étudiant; validity commonly up to 90 days per entry (extension possible through authorities); max stay details depend on study program; approximate fee USD 120–150; approx. XAF 84,000–105,000.
  • e-Visa Travail (Work): Official name e-Visa Travail; validity up to 1 year with possible multiple entries; max stay per entry typically up to 90 days; approximate fee USD 150–180; approx. XAF 105,000–126,000.

Application process

  • How to apply online: go to https://www.ambassade-tchad.org/ and create an account on the e-visa portal.
  • Steps: 1) choose visa category (Tourist, Business, Student, or Work); 2) fill in applicant details; 3) upload required documents (passport data page scan, passport photo, travel itinerary, hotel or invitation letter, and financial proof if requested); 4) pay the visa fee online with a credit/debit card; 5) submit and await the decision.
  • Fee (local + USD): pay the applicable fee in USD via the portal; local currency is CFA franc (XAF) equivalent shown in the portal when applicable.
  • Processing time: typical processing is 3–5 working days for standard service; expedited processing (if offered) may be available for higher fees (e.g., 24–48 hours).
  • How approval arrives: the approved e-visa is sent by email as a PDF; print the e-visa and carry it on arrival in Chad.

Fees & processing time

  • Visa fee (USD): Tourist USD 60–80; Business USD 100–120; Student USD 120–150; Work USD 150–180. Local currency (XAF) equivalents will be shown in the portal (roughly 42,000–126,000 XAF, depending on category).
  • VFS/BLS service fee: not applicable for Chad e-visa when applying directly via the official portal.
  • Total cost estimate: sum of visa fee plus any optional expedited service charges if available.
  • Standard processing time: 3–5 working days.
  • Express/priority option: available in some cases, with higher fees and 24–48 hour turnaround, subject to availability.

Tips for Afghanistan travelers

  • How far in advance to apply: start the e-visa application at least 7–14 days before planned travel to allow time for processing and any document clarifications.
  • Common rejection reasons (Afghanistan applicants): incomplete or mismatched personal data (name, date of birth, passport number), passport validity less than 6 months, insufficient funds evidence when requested, missing or inconsistent travel itinerary or accommodation details, poor-quality passport photo, or failure to provide required invitation/letter when applicable.
