What you need

  • Specific forms: A completed visa application form, which can typically be downloaded from the website of the Embassy of Belarus in Islamabad, Pakistan.
  • Financial proof: Evidence of sufficient funds to cover your stay, usually considered to be at least 20 EUR per day. This can be provided via recent bank statements, a sponsorship letter, or other verifiable financial documents. For example, for a 15-day stay, you would need proof of at least 300 EUR.

  • Photo spec: One recent passport-sized color photograph (35x45 mm) against a plain white background, showing a frontal view of the applicant's face with a neutral expression. Head coverings are generally not permitted unless worn for religious reasons, in which case facial features must remain clearly visible.

  • Travel health insurance: Mandatory. You must have travel medical insurance with coverage for at least 10,000 EUR, valid for the entire duration of your planned stay in Belarus, and recognized in Belarus.

Tips for Afghanistan travelers

  • How far in advance to apply: It is highly recommended to apply for your Belarusian visa at least 1 month before your intended travel date. This allows sufficient time for processing, travel to Islamabad for application, and unforeseen delays.
  • Common rejection reasons for Afghanistan applicants specifically:
  • Incomplete or fraudulent documentation.
  • Insufficient proof of financial means to support the entire stay.
  • Unclear or questionable purpose of visit, especially if travel history is limited.
  • Lack of a valid and verified invitation letter or tourist voucher.
  • Passport not meeting the required validity or having insufficient blank pages.
  • Inadequate travel medical insurance coverage.
  • Previous immigration violations in Belarus or other countries.
  • VFS/BLS vs direct embassy application: For Afghan citizens, visa applications must be submitted directly to the Consular Section of the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in Islamabad, Pakistan. There are no VFS Global or BLS International centers authorized for Belarusian visas in Afghanistan or Pakistan.
  • Any current travel advisories or bilateral notes: As of now, there are no specific bilateral visa waiver agreements between Afghanistan and Belarus. Standard visa regulations apply. Given the current situation in Afghanistan, all applications from Afghan citizens might undergo additional scrutiny, requiring all documentation to be exceptionally clear, verifiable, and complete. Always check the official MFA Belarus website and the Embassy in Pakistan's website for the most current information.
  • Extension options inside Belarus: Visa extensions are generally only granted under exceptional circumstances, such as serious illness, medical emergencies, or other unforeseen force majeure events that prevent departure. Extensions are processed by the Department of Citizenship and Migration (OVIR) offices in Belarus and require strong justification and supporting documents. It is not possible to extend a tourist or business visa simply to prolong a holiday.
