How to apply

  • As Afghanistan citizens are not eligible for e-Visa or visa on arrival, applications must be made at an Armenian diplomatic mission abroad. Armenia does not have an embassy or consulate in Afghanistan. Applicants typically apply at the nearest Armenian embassy or consulate, for example, in Tehran (Iran), New Delhi (India), or Islamabad (Pakistan).
  • Application Steps:
  • 1. Determine the appropriate visa type (C-Type for short stays, D-Type for long stays).
  • 2. Locate the nearest Armenian diplomatic mission and check their specific requirements and operating hours.
  • 3. Download and accurately complete the visa application form from the embassy's website.
  • 4. Gather all required supporting documents as listed in the 'What you need' section and any additional documents specified by the embassy (e.g., invitation letter, employment contract, university acceptance letter).
  • 5. Schedule an appointment for visa submission, if required by the specific embassy.
  • 6. Submit your complete application package in person at the Armenian diplomatic mission.
  • 7. Pay the applicable visa fee at the time of submission. Accepted payment methods vary by embassy (e.g., cash, bank transfer).
  • 8. Attend a visa interview if requested by the consular officer.
  • 9. Collect your passport with the visa stamp once the application is processed. Some embassies may offer a courier service for passport return.

Tips for Afghanistan travelers

  • How far in advance to apply: It is highly recommended to apply for your visa at least 1-2 months before your intended travel date, especially considering the need to travel to a third country for application and potential processing delays.
  • Common rejection reasons for Afghanistan applicants: Common reasons for visa rejection include incomplete application forms, insufficient supporting documents (e.g., lack of confirmed accommodation, return tickets, or financial proof), a history of overstaying visas in other countries, or failure to demonstrate a clear and legitimate purpose of visit to Armenia. Ensure all documents are genuine and consistent.
  • VFS/BLS vs direct embassy application: For Armenian visas, Afghanistan citizens must apply directly at an Armenian diplomatic mission abroad. There are no VFS/BLS centers for Armenian visa applications.
  • Current travel advisories or bilateral notes: Always check the latest travel advisories for both Afghanistan (for departure) and Armenia (for entry and stay) from your country's foreign affairs department. Ensure you are aware of any specific entry requirements or restrictions related to your nationality.
  • Extension options inside Armenia: If you wish to extend your stay in Armenia, you must apply to the Passport and Visa Department of the Police of the Republic of Armenia (OVIR) before your current visa expires. Extensions are granted based on valid reasons and compliance with Armenian immigration laws.
