What you need

  • To apply for an Armenian visa, Afghanistan citizens must provide the following:
  • Passport validity: Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the expiration date of the visa requested. It must also have at least two blank pages for the visa stamp.
  • Specific forms: An Armenian visa application form must be completed. This form is typically available for download from the website of the Armenian embassy/consulate where you plan to apply or can be obtained in person.
  • Financial proof: You must provide evidence of sufficient funds to cover your expenses during your stay in Armenia. This typically includes recent bank statements (for the last 3-6 months) showing a balance of at least USD 50-100 per day of your intended stay.
  • Accommodation and return ticket requirements:
  • Confirmed hotel reservations or an invitation letter from a host in Armenia (specifying accommodation details) for the entire duration of your stay.
  • A confirmed round-trip flight itinerary, showing your entry and exit dates from Armenia.
  • Photo spec: Two recent passport-sized (3.5cm x 4.5cm) color photos against a white background. Your face should occupy 70-80% of the photo, with a neutral expression, and no head covering unless for religious reasons (in which case facial features must be clearly visible).
  • Biometrics: Biometric data (fingerprints, facial scan) is generally not required for Armenian short-stay visas.
  • Travel health insurance: It is highly recommended to obtain comprehensive travel health insurance covering the entire duration of your stay in Armenia. While not always strictly mandatory for visa application, it is crucial for your safety and medical needs.

  • Steps for application:

Tips for Afghanistan travelers

  • How far in advance to apply: It is highly recommended to apply for your Armenian visa at least 1-2 months before your intended travel date, especially considering the need to travel to a neighboring country for the application.
  • Common rejection reasons for Afghanistan applicants specifically:
  • Insufficient proof of funds to cover the entire stay.
  • Lack of strong ties to your home country (Afghanistan), which may raise concerns about overstaying.
  • Unclear purpose of visit or inconsistencies in your application.
  • Incomplete documentation or errors in the application form.
  • Previous visa overstays or immigration violations in any country.
  • Absence of a properly certified invitation letter for private visits.
  • VFS/BLS vs direct embassy application: For Afghanistan citizens, all visa applications for Armenia must be submitted directly to an Armenian diplomatic mission (embassy or consulate) abroad. There are no VFS Global or BLS International services for Armenian visas.
  • Any current travel advisories or bilateral notes: Always check the latest travel advisories from your home government and the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs before planning your trip. Be aware of any political or security developments in the region that might affect travel. As of current information, Afghanistan citizens are generally welcome to apply for Armenian visas, but individual circumstances and documentation are key.
  • Extension options inside Armenia: If you wish to extend your stay in Armenia beyond the validity of your visa, you must apply for an extension or a relevant residence permit at the Passport and Visa Department of the Police of the Republic of Armenia before your current visa expires. Extensions are granted based on valid reasons (e.g., illness, new employment, study, family reunification) and adherence to Armenian immigration laws.
