What you need

  • Passport validity: Your passport must be valid for at least three months beyond your intended period of stay in Albania. It should also have at least two blank pages for entry/exit stamps if required.
  • Specific forms: The application form is completed directly on the e-Albania portal as part of the online application process. There are no separate downloadable forms like DS-160 or VAF1A for this e-Visa.
  • Financial proof: You must provide evidence of sufficient funds to cover your stay in Albania. A common guideline is approximately EUR 50 per day of stay. This can be shown through recent bank statements (for the last 3-6 months), payslips, or a letter from your employer.
  • Accommodation and return ticket requirements: A confirmed round-trip flight reservation and proof of accommodation (hotel bookings, confirmed itinerary, or an invitation letter from a host in Albania detailing their address and contact information) are mandatory.
  • Photo spec: A recent digital passport-style photograph with a plain, light-colored background (preferably white or off-white). The photo should be clear, in color, showing a full frontal view of your face. Specific dimensions and file size limits will be provided on the e-Albania portal during the upload process (typically 35x45mm or 2x2 inches, high resolution).
  • Biometrics: Biometric data (fingerprints or facial scan) is not required for the Albania e-Visa application for Afghanistan citizens.
  • Travel health insurance: Comprehensive travel health insurance is mandatory. It must cover medical emergencies, hospitalization, and repatriation with a minimum coverage of EUR 30,000 for the entire duration of your stay in Albania.

Visa types

  • Afghanistan citizens are eligible to apply for various short-stay (Type C) visas for Albania through the e-Albania portal. Long-stay (Type D) visas require a different process, often through a consular mission, and are usually followed by an application for a residence permit once in Albania. The e-Visa facility primarily caters to Type C visas.
  • Type C Visa (Short-Stay)
  • Official name: Short-Stay Visa (Type C)
  • Validity: Generally up to 90 days within any 180-day period. The specific validity period will be indicated on the approved e-Visa.
  • Max stay: Up to 90 days within any 180-day period.
  • Entry type: Multiple entry. This allows you to enter and exit Albania multiple times during the visa's validity period, provided your total stay does not exceed 90 days within 180 days.
  • Approximate fee: EUR 60.
  • Common purposes for Type C Visa include:
  • Tourist Visa: For leisure, sightseeing, and vacation.

  • Private Visit Visa: For visiting family or friends in Albania. Requires an invitation letter from the host in Albania.

Fees & processing time

  • Visa fee in local currency AND approximate USD: The standard fee for an Albanian Type C e-Visa for Afghanistan citizens is EUR 60. This is approximately USD 65-70, depending on the current exchange rate at the time of payment.
  • VFS/BLS service fee: There are no additional VFS Global or BLS International service fees as the application is made directly through the official e-Albania government portal.
  • Total cost estimate: The total estimated cost for the e-Visa application is EUR 60.
  • Standard processing time: The typical processing time for an Albanian e-Visa is 10 to 15 business days from the date of submission. However, it can take up to 30 calendar days, especially during peak travel seasons or if additional verification is required.
  • Express/priority option: An express or priority processing option is generally not available for the standard Albanian e-Visa application. All applications are processed in the standard queue.

Tips for Afghanistan travelers

  • How far in advance to apply: It is strongly recommended that Afghanistan citizens apply for their Albanian e-Visa at least 4 to 6 weeks before their intended travel date. This allows ample time for processing, potential requests for additional documents, or unforeseen delays.
  • Common rejection reasons for Afghanistan applicants specifically: Visa rejections often stem from incomplete documentation, insufficient proof of funds, lack of a clear and convincing travel itinerary, failure to demonstrate strong ties to Afghanistan (which might suggest an intention to overstay), previous immigration violations, or a criminal record. For Afghanistan citizens, demonstrating genuine travel intent and strong ties to their home country is particularly crucial. Make sure all information is consistent and verifiable.
  • VFS/BLS vs direct embassy application: For the Albanian e-Visa, there is no option to apply through VFS Global or BLS International. The application is submitted directly online via the e-Albania government portal. There is also no need to visit an Albanian embassy or consulate in person for an e-Visa application, though an embassy might be contacted if you need assistance or clarification.
  • Any current travel advisories or bilateral notes: Always check the official website of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs of Albania (www.punetejashtme.gov.al) and your own government's travel advisories (if available) for any specific travel restrictions, policy changes, or bilateral agreements that might affect Afghanistan citizens. As of current general policy, Afghanistan citizens require a visa to enter Albania.
  • Extension options inside Albania: Short-stay Type C visas are generally not extendable in Albania. Exceptions are made only in very specific, unforeseeable circumstances such as serious medical emergencies or force majeure events. If you wish to stay longer than your visa permits, you must typically leave Albania and apply for a new visa or a different type of permit from outside the country. Overstaying your visa can lead to fines, deportation, and future entry bans.
